Mediation
Go the EMW Way
Experience the alternative dispute resolution that works
Life is full of conflicts, and disagreements can become divisive. But every conflict has two sides, and there’s always one solution. At EMW, INC, I’m here to help you talk it out, find the middle ground, and build solutions that work for everyone. I’m Beth Buffington Curry, and it’s not about who’s right—it’s about what’s right. Let’s work together to find that one solution.
What is Mediation?
Mediation is the voluntary, collaborative effort of disputing parties and a mediator to reach a solution to conflict. Rather than traditional court litigation, the goal of mediation isn’t for one side to win or lose – but to come to an agreement that saves time, relationships, and money for each participant.
A mediator promotes discussions, helping parties understand each other’s viewpoint, and guiding the conversation toward a mutual resolution. Mediators don’t make the decisions, you do. Each mediation session is intended to assist conflicting parties in finding their own solutions that might not be possible with litigation alone.
At Effective Mediation Works (EMW), we combine life experience and education to foster a brighter mediation, focusing on the details of each case and story to uncover solutions for all types of conflicts.

Meet Your Mediator
“I have real-life experience as a problem solver, business owner, and active community member on both sides of the mediation process. With a background in farming, construction, and family businesses, I understand firsthand the challenges—and the rewards—of working through differences. Bringing community, family, and business together, life’s experiences form the foundation of my unique approach to mediation.”

Why choose mediation ?
Save your time
In many cases, mediation is much quicker than going to trial. With the involvement of a mediator, disputes can often be solved in a matter of days or weeks rather than months or even years. The mediation process is less formal than traditional litigation, allowing for an easier, faster process to help both parties move on with life as soon as possible.
Save your relationships
When a dispute arises in a family or business setting, preserving the relationship buried underneath a conflict is important. Mediation allows parties to discuss the issue at hand privately outside of the public eye, helping to avoid the damages to relationships that often occur in court. In many cases, when brought to a mediator, disagreements or disputes are based on simple misunderstandings. With the guidance of a mediator, you and your opposing party can work towards a mutual and fruitful agreement, without wrecking your ties.
Save your money
Because mediation is less resource and time consuming than traditional litigation, it is generally much less expensive. Long, drawn out trials can total up to a significant loss of your time and money. Whether you have started the legal process or not, mediation can help you reach a conclusion faster. The mediation process is more flexible than traditional court, allowing you to work with your mediator and opposing party to come to a conclusion that might not be possible without collaboration!
Save your privacy
Unlike in open court, mediation sessions are private and confidential. Before each session, all parties will sign a confidentiality agreement, barring all conversations within a mediated session from being shared with the public. In the case that you do proceed with a court trial, none of the conversations during prior mediation sessions can be used against either party in court. Having a confidentiality agreement in place helps both parties feel comfortable having open and honest mediated communication, often leading to better, faster resolutions.
